Summary (English)
ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF SOKOL (Krassimir Leshtakov – leshtakov@abv.bg, Georgi Katsarov, Tatyana Kancheva–Ruseva, Vanya Petrova, Nadezhda Todorova) The exploration of the stratum of the Early Bronze Age (3500 – 1900 BC) in the southern part of the site continued. In 2007, farming buildings, dolia, hearths and ovens were discovered on that place. The destruction of sun-dried bricks in layer III of the Early Bronze Age 2 probably came from free-standing walls that encircled shelters. Stone walls, about 1 m in width, were explored in trenches L6–8 and K7. According to the pottery, the walls date to the 2nd – 4th centuries AD. Constructions that were renewed multiple times were explored in trenches L8–9 in layers I and III. Hearths, dolia and ovens were discovered. Identical farming constructions were explored in trenches K7 and L10–M10 in layers II and III. The finds include a bronze awl and pottery of the end the Early Bronze Age 1 or the beginning of the Early Bronze Age 2. Exploration of massive debris of a Late Chalcolithic house (?) began in trenches N10–О10. The building was burned at the end of the Chalcolithic period (end of the 5th – beginning of the 4th millennium BC) and the household belongings remained in situ. The ceiling was plastered, or probably there was a second floor. Four terracotta loom weights and a bone spindle whorl were found.
