Summary (English)

  • ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF SOKOL (Krassimir Leshtakov – leshtakov@abv.bg) A stratum of the early Bronze Age I was explored in the central part of the settlement mound. Constructions covered with shelters were located there, used for food storage and cooking. The bottoms of ovens, hearths and dolia were discovered, situated in three complexes with several occupation stages. Each complex consisted of an oven or a large hearth surrounded with a raised border, several smaller hearths located around the central oven or hearth, several dolia and one or two plastered and trampled platforms. Remains from a house of the Late Chalcolithic period were explored in the southern periphery of the settlement mound. The building was at least two-storeys. The walls were monumental and built from clay. An oven was discovered, which was situated on the second floor. The pottery and the finds indicated that the house was burned during the end of the Late Chalcolithic period (Karanovo VI – Kodzhadermen – Gumelniţa).
