Summary (English)

  • ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF SOKOL (Krasimir Leshtakov – leshtakov@abv.bg, Vanya Petrova) The explorations of the Early Bronze Age stratum continued in the southern half of the settlement mound in Trenches L6-L10, M6-M10 and N6-N10. Plasters of ten hearths and ovens and the bottom of a grain storage pit were discovered in Trenches L6-7/М6-7 (II/III occupation layer). A hearth and the bottoms of two grain storage pits were discovered in Trenches L7-K7. A hearth was explored in Trenches М7-М8 (IV occupation layer). A complex of an oven, hearths and a grain storage pit was discovered in Trenches М9-М10 (III/IV occupation layer). The finds from the excavations included sherds from dishes, jugs and cups of the Early Bronze Age I, produced from local clay, terracotta models of battle axes and bone awls. The central part of the settlement mound was occupied by storage and cooking structures situated under ramshackle shelters and there were no houses in that part of the settlement.
