This report, beginning with the finds made during the 2003-2004 excavation campaign in the Pompeian insula of the Chaste Lovers (IX, 12) analyses specific situations, regarding more generalised events, in three different moments in history. Beginning in 79 A.D. with the observation that at the moment of the eruption water from the Serino aqueduct was no longer reaching the city, perhaps because of the bradyseism which preceded the eruption itself, an analysis was made on the one hand of how water was collected and stored in houses and on the other hand of the use made of amphorae which formerly contained wine. Moreover, one amphora provided interesting information about a specific type of wine produced in the area. The next historical period is that of Claudius and researched focused on how the construction of a latrine on the upper floor of a dining room determined the use of a cesspit which until then had been used for the latrine on the lower floor of the complex, which from that moment was moved and connected to a new sewage disposal installation. By looking at this an attempt was made to define the ownership of the various properties and apartments involved in these changes and on the adding of floors in a period that certainly preceded the earthquake of 62 A.D. Finally, the entity and significance of the Neolithic finds from the site, found in three trenches a certain distance from each other in the same layer of uncontaminated primary deposit, rich in evidence of the ancient ground level, were analysed.
