    Summary (English)

    • During the 2003-2004 excavation campaign in the Pompeian insula of the Chaste Lovers (IX, 12), the SAP continued the investigation of the trenches dug in the vicoli to the east and west of the insula. The vicolo to the west had not been uncovered before and the part bought to light by the excavation gave a fairly exact idea of the state of the lanes in Pompeii at the time of the eruption. Four new cesspits were also identified and explored in depth, where possible. Thanks also to complementary analyses they provided interesting information regarding the dietary habits of the inhabitants. An analysis of the stratigraphy of the roads led to the formation of an interesting historic picture which includes the dating of the sidewalks and the life of the road itself in which ditches were repeatedly dug for the extraction of pozzolana to then be filled in with rubbish. The road surface in the various periods shows a succession of cart tracks in the surfaces going down as far as the make up of the vicoli and thus their dating. Below the road the Samnite ground level is of interest. Even deeper down was the Neolithic level rich in seeds and marsh plants together with much evidence of human activity. (Ria Berg).
