Summary (English)
Rescue archaeological excavation in I. G. Kovačić Street no. 4 encompassed an area of 120 m2 adjacent to the outer side of the western section of the city walls. A layer of more recent rubble extended over the whole excavated area. In a Roman layer under the rubble only sherds of Roman brick were found. Remains of a Roman road made of brick and running in NE – SW direction were recorded in the eastern area of the site. Since its construction did not include the underpinning made of crushed brick, it is to be dated to the period following the destruction of the city. The location of the road in the immediate vicinity of the western section of the city walls suggests that its construction should be related to the military presence in Cibalae, i.e. armed conflicts related with the struggle for the throne in the 4th century AD.
