Chronology

  • 1700 AD - 1800 AD

Season

    • In the center of the Balaci village, in the Teleorman county, on the land that tops Burda Plain, , the church "Adormirea Maicii Domnului" ("Dormition of the Mother of God"), a former manor chapel and the ruins of the cellars of what used to be the courtyard of the landowner Constantin Bălăceanu still stand after more than three hundred years. The proportions of the constructions, the great quality of the work reveal the princely ambition of voivode Şerban Cantacuzino’s son-in-law. The archeological site, organized for getting information in the year 2000 on the house cellars, proved that the dwelling place from Balaci can be found in the themes of the residential sites from that epoch and represents a more complex type, being extended on the north side with other rooms. The poor archeological material does not indicate an intense occupation.
