Chronology

Season

    • The excavations inside the Roman Camp at "Bumbeşti-Jiu Gară" had uncovered a road which made the connection to the barracks. This road connected via principalis to via sagularis on the east side in the praetentura sinistra. The road was 2.45 m broad and was flanked by river stone gutters. The archaeological material that we discovered is fragmentary – bricks, tiles, shingles, coarseware made by hand and by wheel, glass pots and iron artifacts from the 2nd – 3rd centuries. These excavations conducted in the military vicus at "Bumbeşti-Jiu Gară" did not uncover any element which could confirm the existence of a supposed building and settlement. We discovered a lot of archaeological material, mostly sherds, fragmentary bricks, tiles, shingles, and bronze artifacts which date to the 2nd – 3rd centuries.
