Chronology

Season

    • The archaeological research took place in the archaeological site of Apulum, in the central-west area of the Roman town of colonia Aurelia Apulensis. Investigation results: 0-0.35 m, arable layer; -0.35-0.6 m, filling layer from the Roman period; -0.6-1.8 m, phases 1 - 2 of the stone building; -1.80-1.85 m, lenses of cremation belonging to the wooden phase of the settlement; -1.85, archaeologically sterile (geological level of gravel or ancient humus). In cassette C2 we identified the floor of a Roman dwelling consisting of bricks laid on a bed of clayish sand and bound with mortar. The foundation wall, having a thickness of 0.8 m, was investigated deep down to -2.65 m below the actual ground level, thus reaching the level of the groundwater.
