Chronology

Season

    • The archaeological research took place in the archaeological site of Apulum, in the area of the praetorium, the residence of the governor of the three Dacian provinces. Chronologically, the Roman period offers the earliest archaeological vestiges consisting of brick fragments, pottery, iron objects (nails, spikes). We identified the traces of a portion of a Roman building, from which remained parts of the foundations and the gravel bed underneath them. We also found the walls of buildings raised during the Austrian administration (late 18th–early 19th centuries), and then, twentieth century buildings. Among the Roman materials, we mention bricks bearing the seal LEG XIII G, in different variants as well as a seal with a human name LEG XIII GEM/OFELLI. The presence of some elements of hypocaust type heating system confirms that the building was a dwelling.
