    Chronology

    Season

      • Situated on the top of Blidaru hill (705 m high) and enjoying an excellent view both to Mureşului valley and to Grădiştea Muncelului (the Ancient Sarmizegetusa Regia), the fortress which served for military purposes, is the most imposing work of this kind in the area. The archaeological investigations started in 1953 and continued with some interruptions until 2005. The fortress is remarkable due to the large number of guard towers surrounding it. One of these towers is that of “La Vămi” site which was systematically investigated starting from 2003. Its walls were constructed by using the Hellenistic technique. A 3x15m profile and a 3.70x7m cassettes were conducted. We continued to uncover the tower wall, and inside, the walking path level was reached (over a small distance) and a kiln was found.
