Chronology

Season

    • During the 2006 archaeological excavations season, we found 108 graves, dated in the 17th - 19th centuries, disposed around the present-day church. From the inventory we can remark the coins, West-European and Ottoman, ritually deposed in graves, but also the jewelry like finger rings or ear rings. Particular items are the metal buttons which prove that during the 19th century military personnel have been buried here too. For interpreting other graves as monk graves, an important argument is the presence of the bricks having inscriptions, found under the skulls. Anthropological analyze have the following results: 52 human skeletons belonging to two children, 20 females and 30 males were analyzed. Males have an age of death around 45 years and average stature, and females have an age of death around 48 years and under average stature.
