Season

    • Trial trenches were dug during the laying of the domestic gas supply system. These provided the first data regarding the site of the _forum_ of Trebula, modern Pontelatone. The floor of the _forum_ came to light at a depth of circa 1 m in correspondence with the central-eastern area of the La Corte plateau, on the southern slopes of the hill of Monticelli, along the road for Liberi. The limestone slab paving was arranged in parallel rows and had a drainage channel also built of limestone blocks. On the other side of the channel was a structure of grey tufa blocks, perhaps part of a system to contain the zone situated up against the ditch formed by the bed of the Fosso Pisciarello, which the _forum_ overlooked. Also uncovered was the corner of a base built of stucco faced brick, belonging to a public building which seemed to be on the same alignment as the paving and containing walls. The little data that emerged, apart from the certainty of the forum’s site, showed that its north-eastern limit, given by the drainage channel, was aligned with the theatre’s frons scenae and the town’s north-western gate.
