Chronology

  • 500 BC - 400 BC

Season

    • The is no summary for this season. Two funerary monuments came to light in the locality of Torre San Severino, not far from the water purification plant of Licola. The smaller of the two was an underground chamber, the second and larger one was a semi-interred chamber with a vaulted covering and an enclosure. An inscription was recovered from the latter dedicated by _Lucius Cornelius Graius_ to his wife _Cornelia Veneria_ and to _Lucius Cornelius Faustus_, probably his son. Close to the mausoleum were several rooms cut into the tufa and the remains of a cistern belonging to a rural settlement, perhaps part of the _praedium_ of the _Cornelii_.
    • In an area already known for the presence of the early imperial mausoleums a small group of three tufa “a cassa” tombs (end of the 5th century B.C.) came to light. These were obliterated by an alluvial layer within which were infant burials dating to the mid 4th century. The few grave goods comprised a miniature crater and a black glaze cup. The adult burial had a rich tomb group of both ceramic and metal objects.
