The monastery Treskavec was initially built in the XIV century and it is located 10 km to the North of the modern town Prilep on the mountain top Zlatovrv which is 1422 m above the sea level. There are five locations in the close surrounding of the monastery which have archaeological remains from the Classical to the Medieval period. The first archaeological excavations are done in 1959 when a necropolis and a settlement were discovered. The settlement is built in Late Antiquity while the necropolis had burials from the Classical, the Hellenistic and the Roman period. Inscriptions dedicated to Artemis and Apollo are found inside the monastery complex which points out the fact that the monastery is built on a sacred place from an earlier period. In 2005, at the same time as the conservation of the church Sv. Uspenie Bogorodicno (Apotheosis of Virgin Mary) excavations took place beneath the floors. Besides the graves from the XIV and XV century there were two walls from an older building were discovered. They probably belong to an Early Christian basilica whose architectural elements are built in the walls of the medieval church. The researchers were also able to document all the modifications of the church beginning from the XIV to the XIX century.
