Chronology

  • 300 BC - 265 BC

Season

    • A trench (8 x 3 m) was opened in the locality of Puzzelli, via Kennedy, on the northern edge of Soleto. It revealed the external facing of the second Messapian curtain wall, characterised by two rows of squared _carparo_ blocks, those on the exterior placed crosswise, those on the interior placed longwise.
    • In 2001 the remains of the outer facing of the second Messapian curtain wall was found in front of the dry-stone wall marking the southern perimeter of the Russo property. The removal of a short section of this wall rendered it possible to open a trench. This revealed a make up resting on the rocky outcrops and sterile clay soil and the internal facing of the curtain wall with related collapse to the south, in Fondo Paparusso. The wall seems to date to around 300 B.C.
