Chronology

  • 600 BC - 400 BC

Season

    • A cemetery of tumulus graves (diameter 28 - 30 m) are being excavated in the plain of Corvaro, ca. 2 km away from the large tumulus called Montariolo. The largest tumulus, completely excavated, has yielded 39 graves and one ritual pit containing materials from the orientalizing period. Of these tombs 19 are lacking goods, four are completely empty, and 16 contain archaic materials similar to those documented in the nearby tumulus of Montariolo. The circular arrangement of the tombs, the absence of pottery in the deposit and the typology of the grave goods permit a dating of the tomb in the sixth to fifth century BC.
