      • The coastal zone of Mazarrón is a worldwide reference area for Underwater Archaeology related to the Phoenician world. The discovery in 1988 and the excavation in successive years of a Phoenician wreck have marked deeply the town. Its importance in Antiquity is revealed by the rich underwater and land sites in La Grua, Isla de Cueva Lobos, El Castellar, Los Gavilanes, Punta de Nares, Playa de la Isla and Isla de Adentro. Research in these places have provided important data on Phoenician-Punic trade contacts and cultural exchanges with indigenous populations from the Levantine coast. The recent surveys were carried out in order to go into these aspects in depth. During the campaign of 2015 the works were located in the northern zone of La Isla de Adentro. One hundred archaeological objects have been recovered, mostly Phoenician and Roman pottery found on the surface. All the materials have been appropriately documented and they are currently under review. (translation by Pilar Alarcón Blázquez)
