Chronology

Season

    • EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF CHERNOMORETS (Petar Leshtakov – junior_1_bg@yahoo.com, Petar Zidarov) The site is situated at 2.5 km to the northwest of Akladi Cheiri Settlement Mound and near to copper ore deposits exploited during the later Prehistory and the Antiquity. During field surveys, sherds, flint and stone tools, burned fragmentary wattle-and-daub and pieces of ore have been discovered over an area of c. 6.7 ha. The pottery dated to the Late Neolithic period (Karanovo III – IV Cultures) and single sherds from the Bronze Age were found as well. Geophysical survey using magnetometry was carried out over an area of 11200 sq. m. Numerous contrast points and linear anomalies were documented. However, no one of the expected elements in the settlement model in that period (buildings constructed according to a plan, series of pits or ditches and palisades) were clearly visible on the magnetic map.
