Season

    • ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF BISER (Georgi Nehrizov – nehrizov@gmail.com) During construction works, dug out structures of the Early Bronze Age were partly destroyed. Seven structures were explored, containing sherds, stone and flint and bone tools, animal bones. The structures probably belonged to at least two ditches. The pottery dated to the transition between the Early Bronze Age II and III and belonged to the Mihalich Phase. Sherds, mostly from the Early Iron Age and fewer from the Late Iron Age and the 11th – 12th centuries, were found in the earth excavated during the construction works. Sondages were carried out and piles of burned fragmentary wattle-and-daub from houses of the Second Phase of the Early Iron Age (8th – 6th centuries BC) were discovered. The finds included Thracian sherds, a pot, an amphora-like vessel, a quern, stone pestles, part from a decorated terracotta border of a hearth, fragments from anthropomorphic terracotta figurines and animal bones.
