Chronology

  • 1 AD - 299 AD

Season

    • During an archaeological investigation begun in 2017 in the locality of Nevola (Corinaldo), aerial and geophysical surveys revealed the presence of a previously unknown necropolis. The characteristics of the remains suggested they belonged to funerary monuments with circular ditches and probable tumuli, typical of the Picena culture in the Orientalizing period. In 2018, preliminary interventions were followed by open-area excavations, which lead to the discovery of a tomb with princely grave goods dating to the 7th century B.C. Numerous burials of Roman date were also found, of various types they were placed alongside the original funerary nucleus in a later phase. Multidisciplinary research continued in 2019 involving various specialisations, from archeo-botanical and chemical analyses of the metal finds to conservation.
