Chronology

  • 300 AD - 600 AD

Season

    • The archaeological site is located on a private property of the Pejchinovci family, where in 2014 a building was destroyed, and the terrain was leveled. Since this is a previously unexplored area of the urban core with a deep and rich archaeological past, the opportunity was used in 2016 to make archaeological investigations. Under a thick layer of Medieval and modern rubble a tomb with a semi-cylindrical dome was discovered. The side walls were built by simple stacking of unprepared stones, while the dome was a bit more elaborated, using trapeze-shaped limestone and marl mortar. The tomb interior was filled with dark soil and modern waste, which suggests that it was already destroyed during the 20th century, probably during the construction of the now-destroyed private house. Nevertheless, the construction style finds numerous analogies throughout Ohrid, which chronologically firmly positions the tomb in Late Antiquity.
