Chronology

Season

    • Between the 4th of May 2005 and the 28th of July 2005, the Prahova District Museum of History and Archaeology conducted excavations on the property of SC BAUMEISTER SRL situated on the area of Ariceştii Rahtivani, the location “Crângu lui Bot”, 1.2 km north from DN 72, km 10. The excavation method was adapted to the necessity of discharging the territory of archaeological charge, in a short time. A very large quantity of earth had to be excavated, so we chose to use mechanized tools. Two differently sized tools were used to excavate and remove the earth. Some employees performed the drawing, the removing, the cleaning of the stratigraphical baulks, the profiles and “groundings". Considering the dimensions of the tumulus we drew four stratigraphic baulks 1 m thick, every 6 m, parallel of the diameter of the tumulus, north-south oriented. Thus, we obtained five areas which were separated by leveling the earth in altimetry. We established the diameter of the tumulus; we observed the construction and the evolution of this funerary monument. All measurements were made considering a point zero of altimetry, situated approximately in the centre, at the highest level of the tumulus. We discovered three tombs: M1, M2, and M3; judging from the grave goods discovered, the monument was built in the Early Bronze Age, in the Jamnaja cultural horizon.
