Within the territory of the Forni Savorgnani there are three fortified settlements. In 1891, the perimeter wall of one of them, the so-called “fortilizio di Sacuidic”, was excavated by Alessandro Wolf. Subsequently, the site was abandoned and the degradation caused by the elements has provoked heavy damage to the entire structure. From the summer of 2004, regular excavation campaigns have been undertaken on the site, providing data which indicate that the structures and settlement characteristics should be placed within a chronology that falls somewhere within the period between the 11th century and the 14th-beginning of the 15th centuries. This is confirmed by the finds, analysis of construction techniques and the divisions of the building phases. However, an earlier occupation phase of cannot be excluded. The place where the remains of the fortification of Sacuidic stands (865m a.s.l) forms part of a range of hills which overlooks the valley of the river Taglimento, south east of the hamlet of Andrazza. The buildings are sited on a rocky spur surrounded by a steep slope. The first excavation campaigns established a provisional phasing sequence: Phase 1: tower and first defensive wall around the summit of the relief. Phase 2: creation of a “residential building” around the tower. Phase 3: reinforcement of the walls on the north-west and north-east sides (relative to the residential building) Phase 4: creation of a second defensive wall along the north, north-east side. Phase 5: abandonment and ruin of the settlement. In the 13th century the territory belonged to the lords of Mels, it then passed to the Socchieve and, at the beginning of the 1300s, to the nobles of Nonta who, as early as 1326 cede it to the nobles of Savorgnano. The latter maintained the territory until the fall of Venice. The restoration and conservation of the walls is in progress. (Fabio Piuzzi)
