Season

    • ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF VINITSA (Ventsislav Dinchev – vdintchev@abv.bg, Ivo Topalilov) A number of sondages were carried out. No cultural layers and archaeological structures were registered. A limited number of archaeological materials were found only in the humus. They include separate fragments of building terracottas and pottery of the Late Iron Age (5th – 1st centuries AD), the 2nd – 4th centuries AD and the 17th – 19th centuries. Identical pottery and a lead seal of the Ottoman period were found during an additional survey in the locality. It may be concluded that no permanent settlements existed there, but only farm buildings that were temporary used or buildings with light construction. In 2004, two tumuli of the Roman period were excavated in the neighboring site. In 2005, a sondage was carried out in the area between the tumuli. Fragments of building terracottas and pottery of the Roman and the Ottoman periods were found, but no cultural layers and archaeological structures were discovered.
