Season

    • The object is the interpretation of the frescoes found on the so-called “Arieti tomb” near the Esquiline gate (arch of _Gallienus_ ) in Rome. This was a tomb (a monumental exedra according to an alternative interpretation) in which a triumphal scene was represented, with a quadriga preceded by six lectors. This detail suggests that it was a praetorian triumph, a fact which greatly reduces the number of possibilities regarding the identity of its beneficiary. The depiction of a crucified man (this interpretation seems to prevail over other hypotheses) is of particular interest. The author sees in this the torture of _Atilius Regulus_, thus identifying _Atilius Calantinus_ as the man who commissioned the monument.
