During an excavation inside the church of S. Pancrazio, numerous fragments of painted plaster were found in the make up below the 17th century sacristy pavement, north of the presbytery; three in particular are worthy of mention.
In the first fragment only the left eye, the nose and mouth of a face can be distinguished; the second fragment shows a woman’s face in profile; the third shows the face of a lady, almost front facing. Comparisons with other paintings, indications given in an inscription in which is inscribed the construction date of the altar (1444), together with a series of observations (see FOLD&R), give a date within the last quarter of the 1400s.
