During construction of a public parking complex under the auspices of the Comune di Sora, preventative soundings were made close to the chapel of S. Giuliano, not far from the ancient remains of the Roman Sora. The church, considered the place of martyrdom of the saint and created under the emperor Antoninus Pius (AD 138 - 161), preserves in the subsoil traces of Roman preexistence. This is found in the neighborhood of the via Sora - Cereatae - Verulae (Ferentium), the large artery which connects the via Latina with the Soran basin, permitting access to Marsica. Walled structures constructed of opus caementum were found, pertinent to a building of the Republican period. The structure, of notable dimensions, was constructed with a carefultechnique and was decorated with colored marbles.(Alessandra Tomassetti)
