Summary (English)

  • ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR APOLLONIA (Dimitar Nedev – am_sozopol@abv.bg) The excavations in the Solinariya Locality were rescue. An area of c. 350 sq. m was explored. Fourteen burial constructions and two ritual hearths and piles of sherds were discovered. The inhumation burials prevail. The deceased lay with heads oriented to the east and with arms stretched along the bodies. Eight burials were performed in funerary pits and five burials were performed in stone built graves (cists). There was one cremation burial. The ashes of the deceased were placed in a funerary urn. The areas around cist graves Nos. 1 and 5 are surrounded by curved periboloi built of ashlars. Three of the cist graves were covered with stone slabs. The burial chamber of grave No. 9 is cut into the bedrock. The grave goods include lekythoi (polychrome with gilded details, a red palmetto and net-like decoration), kylikes, kantharoi, bronze strigils, a mirror and fibulae. The burials date to the second half of the 4th century BC. The explorations provide data for the organization of the necropolis of Apollonia in its most remote part from the polis.
