ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF GLEDACHEVO (Boris Borisov – bdborisov@abv.bg) The site covers an area of c. 10 ha. The explorations of the Roman building in the central sondage continued. Its walls are constructed of uneven stones bonded with mortar and are 55 – 80 cm wide. The currently explored width of the building is 16.70 m, but its length cannot be specified. Its gate is located on the northern façade and consists of a tribelon with three entrances, 2.10 m, 1.70 m and 1.60 m in width. The tribelon leads to an antechamber, 4.35 m wide. There is a room, 5.45 m by 3.72 m in size, to the east of the antechamber. There is an entrance, 1.55 m wide, located in the southeastern corner of the room. The entrance leads to another room, 10.85 m by 10.80 m in size. There are two pillars in the center of the room, which supported the roofing construction and probably, a second floor of the building. A hearth was discovered at the western pillar. The building has a third room and its northeastern corner was explored. The building dates to the 2nd – 4th centuries AD. Four midden pits, up to 2.85 m in diameter and 2.15 m in depth, were discovered in the southern sondage. A large quantity of mediaeval sherds of the second half of the 12th century was found in the pits, while numerous iron mill bars and slag were found along the sherds in pit No. 7.
