    Summary (English)

    • The Late Iron Age fortress of Luncani-Piatra Rosie is a part of the defensive system (consisting of several citadels and sentry towers built along all possible access ways towards the central place) meant to protect the capital of the Dacian Kingdom. The excavations were resumed half a century after a monograph signed by C. Daicoviciu was published, in order to get some more information on the site, its construction phases and the structures built especially in precinct no. 2. Two trenches were excavated, both along the main axis of the upper plateau and intersecting the north wall of the first citadel. Some structures were found, mainly within the courtyard of the fortress: two narrow trenches, a few pits and post-pits, and a discontinuous rubble platform which also contained sherds, parts of more complex structures that are to be unearthed during the next excavations. It also became clear that the foundations of the north side of the first precincts limestone wall were built directly on the bedrock, and that the wall itself was dismantled at a certain moment – and its foundations were overlapped by a stone platform. Some interesting artefacts were found: a fragment of a late Iron Age brooch, some iron nails and bronze sheet fragments.
