Summary (English)
The site of Spolverino has been known from ancient times as it stood close to the via Aurelia vetus/Aemilia Scauri with a bridge crossing the river Ombrone. The 2010 investigations confirmed the existence of warehouse structures relating to the river-port of the town of Roselle, together with a glass-making workshop dating to the late Roman period. The discovery of 12 fossilised furrows documented the area’s conversion to agricultural use during the course of the 5th-6th century.
