Summary (English)
ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF GORNO NOVO SELO (Boyan Dumanov – bdumanov@nbu.bg) Six groups of grave stones were distinguished in the cemetery. Over 1000 graves were documented. Graves Nos. 577, 580, 581, 582, 583 and 584 were located in sondage 1 situated in Group C. Graves Nos. 577 and 580 are oriented east – west. There are upright stones at their both ends. The burial pits are oval and are surrounded by uneven stones. A clandestine excavation was documented in sondage 2 situated in Group A. It had destroyed grave No. 21. Grave No. 435 was explored in sondage 3 situated in Group B. The surrounding stones make an oval around the grave. Graves Nos. 822 and 828 were documented in sondage 4. There are upright stones at the both ends of grave No.822. It is surrounded by uneven stones. Graves Nos. 1317 – 1323 were documented in sondage 5 situated in Group E. Grave No. 1319 with a triangular grave stone was explored. The surrounding uneven stones make a quadrangular layout around the grave. The burial is an inhumation. The deceased lies on his back with outstretched arms. The cemetery was Muslim and dates to the Ottoman period.
