Summary (English)

  • ST. CYRICUS ISLAND (Krastina Panaiotova – kpanayotova@abv.bg, Margarit Damyanov, Teodora Bogdanova) One grave was explored in the Late Antique cemetery. The explorations of the building of the Archaic period continued. The finds included sherds, including from a cup of the Archaic period and a sherd with graffito, and a bronze arrowhead. A wall 1.10 m wide was discovered, built of ashlars. A bone point of a sword scabbard showing a lion was found close to the wall. Pit No. 23 was completely excavated. In 2013, a ceramic bowl with a votive inscription of Apollo Iatros was found in the pit and in 2014 two East Greek cups and a terracotta phallus were found. Pit No. 24 contained two dishes decorated with meanders and loti of 600 – 550 BC, ceramic alabastra, Corinthian aryballoi, terracotta lamps, bones and horns from oxen, sheep and goats, an iron knife. In the Northern Sector, a Late Antique building was discovered. Spolia from the pre-Roman period were reused in its walls, including an unfinished capital. A rock-cut cistern was discovered. The finds from the sector included Archaic pottery and bronze coins of Apollonia of 350 – 250 BC. Pit No. 25 contained dishes and bowls of 600 – 550 BC, terracotta figurines, ceramic vessels in the shape of bull heads and doves. In the Central Sector, rooms of the 6th century BC with two construction periods were explored. The finds included a bronze bilateral fibula of the 7th – 6th century BC, sherds from amphorae, monochrome and East Greek vessels of 600 – 550 BC.
