Summary (English)
Test pits were dug during restructuring work in an area on the right bank of the R. Isarco. The earliest occupation attested, dated to the Rethic Age (5th-4th centuries B.C.) and subsequently the Imperial and medieval periods. Of particular interest is an area of medieval workshops containing forges for bronze working. Finds relating to this activity include clinker and other lumps of waste produced by this process. Accumulations of reddened and baked clay, as well as, hearths and repeated layers of waste products from the various production phases also came to light. The stratification shows two periods of use, the 9th – 10th centuries and, more recently, the 13 -14th centuries. These occupation layers are above a layer of beaten clay and material relating to earlier phases of use. Above the forges, at a later date and in several phases, the Gries quarter, characterised by buildings often dating back to the 15th -16th centuries, was built.
