Summary (English)
ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR GURKOVO (Maria Kamisheva – maria.ivanowa@gmail.com) No floor level was identified in the frigidarium. Three more niches were discovered on the northern wall of the apodyterium. Its floor was paved with bricks. Probably all the niches were barrel-vaulted, built of bricks. The caldarium was situated to the west of the tepidarium and measured 4.35 m by 3 m. The floor had a hypocaust and 31 terracotta tubes serving as pilae were discovered. The laconicum was situated to the west of the caldarium and measured 4.35 m by 3.77 m. The floor was paved with bricks arranged over a mortar, supported by terracotta tubes serving as pilae of the hypocaust. The walls of the room were heated through flues. The room to the north of apodyterium had two construction periods: during the first period the walls were built of boulders bonded with mortar, while during the second one they were constructed of boulders bonded with clay. A rectangular structure was discovered in front of the entrance of the room; it was probably the base of a monumental wooden post that supported a portico to the east.
