Summary (English)
ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF ANGEL VOIVODA (Zdravko Dimitrov – zdravkodimitrov74@gmail.com) The Late Antique fortress covered an area of 0.8 – 0.9 ha. The eastern fortification wall was discovered behind the Early Christian church explored in 2016. Two Christian burials were discovered; the bodies were laid in rock-cut rectangular chambers covered with stone slabs. A sector of the northern fortification wall, 25 m long, was explored. The wall was built of dry ashlars and was preserved up to 2.50 m in height. A Thracian rock-cut basin for producing wine was discovered on the southern slope of the fortress. A cistern and a building were explored in the Central Sector. Thracian sherds of the Late Bronze Age, Early Iron Age and the Hellenistic period and sherds of the Roman period were found. Over 90% of the pottery was from the Late Antiquity. The fortress and the Early Christian church dated to the 4th – 5th centuries AD.
