Summary (English)

  • EXPLORATIONS IN DUROSTORUMDRASTAR (Stefka Angelova, Rumyana Koleva – rukoleva@gmail.com, Chavdar Kirilov, Boyan Dumanov, Vladimir Penchev) The northeastern corner of house No. 1/2006 dated to the 14th century was discovered in trench F9/10. It lies over the remains of room No. 8 of the building, which consists of adjacent rooms arranged in a line and is located to the west of the basilica. There was a hearth in the northwestern corner of the room. Remains of a building with a timber floor and a basement dated to the 14th century were discovered under a burnt layer in trench E10. Room No. 8 of the building, consisting of adjacent rooms arranged in a line, was explored in trench F10. Two flooring levels were discovered. The upper floor dates to the 14th century. The lower floor contains Latin imitations of Byzantine coins minted in 1200 – 1270. A coin minted by the Bulgarian King Ioan Alexander (1331 – 1371) and his wife Theodora was found in room No. 8. Remains of a wall, which follows the direction of the western wall of room No. 8, were discovered to the south. The area between the walls and room No. 8 was filled with stones plastered with burnt clay. The coins from that level date to the 14th century. There is a wall oriented east – west to the west of room No. 8. A Latin inscription of the first half of the 4th century AD was reused within the wall construction. Coins of the second half of the 13th century were found in the layer above the destructions. Pottery kiln No. 4 was entirely explored. A coin of the first half of the 13th century is the terminus post quem for its construction. The exploration of building No. 3/2005 continued in trench D9/10/Е9/10. It was built of ashlars and cut stones with a bonding medium of mud. The courses of its walls were leveled wit tiles. Pits containing coins of the 13th century were secondary dug within the construction of the walls. Building No. 3/2005 and the building, consisting of adjacent rooms arranged in a line, have the same orientation. Sunken-floored dwellings of the first half of the 11th century were discovered between both buildings.
