    Chronology

    • 14000 BC - 3300 BC

    Season

      • The latest levels of the Upper Paleolithic (Late Epigravetian) period in the Cervini refuge contained lithic material, however this was insufficient for a reliable typological study. The scarcity of finds in a cultural context which is so important for the understanding of the end of the Paleolithic period in this part of Tuscany, is probably due to the episodic nature of the occupation of the refuge. The find of finger-impressed pottery of the early Neolithic on the slope below the refuge is of much interest, as it definitively demonstrates the presents of this cultural horizon at the Riparo Cervini and on the Amiata. Even more important is the presence of a lens of deposit in situ outside of the refuge, from which come pottery and lithic material, including a pendant.
