Chronology

Season

    • In the summer of 2003, the archaeological research continued in the Neolithic cemetery (that belongs to the Boian civilization) of Sultana, Valea Orbului site. We discovered 37 cremation tombs in which the skeletons were placed in a crouched position on one side, most of them being crouched on the left side. In 21 graves we discovered funerary artifacts that consists of blades and graters made of flint, a filed chisel made of a yellowish rocks, two broad bracelets made of the shells of sea shell fish, necklaces made of shells of snails and shell fish, necklaces made of marble, malachite and a few sherds with no decoration. The study of the artifacts allows us to state precisely that the graves discovered in the investigated sector belong to another phase than the others examined in the previous campaigns.
