Chronology

  • 100 BC - 300 AD

Season

    • Excavations were reopened on the De Rosa property in via Galatina where, in 1998, a stretch of road on a NE/SW alignment, identified as the via sacra joining the _forum_ to the sanctuaries of Monte Tifata, was found. The new investigations led to the identification of the structures situated east of the road as the back rooms of the shops that faced onto, via large openings with limestone thresholds, another road or piazza on a N/S alignment. Therefore, as the rooms were situated between two roads on different alignments they were all irregular in shape. One room, paved in brick, may be identified as a _taberna_ due to the presence of a stepped “display”, similar to those found in the shops at Pompeii.
