Season

    • The consolidation and restoration of the site of Tomb of the Scipioni began in 2008 partly in the context of a new arrangement of the site for visitors and the reopening of the entire archaeological complex which has been closed since 1992. After a year, work on the site has recommenced, concentrating mainly on the tufa bed in which the funerary complex is dug. The survival of the monument was at risk because of its precarious state of conservation. The rock was consolidated and work was carried out on the metal supports installed during the restorations of the last century which were now in a state of deterioration. The restoration of the frescoes of the nearby _colombarium_ was almost complete, for which a systematic control for the period of a year is planned, aimed at controlling the constant level of the humidity of the structure and at establishing a microclimate. Future work will focus on the creation of a new drainage system as well as the installation a lighting. This will require excavations aimed ascertaining the feasibility of these operations.
