From 2003 to 2006 Venice University has carried out research and excavations in the _insulae_ 14-south and 7 of _Regio_ VI and in _insulae_ 3 and 4 of _Regio_ V. The data collected is processed, analysed and interpreted using a GIS, which is in the process of creation and implementation, aimed at providing a platform from which to begin integrated data collection from the excavation and analysis of the pottery contexts. The Data Bases are linked to the mapping system used and elaborated, to the photographic and graphic documentation and the pottery classes from the excavation. This particular type of GIS also consents the representation on a quantative basis of classes of finds for each stratigraphic context and of the distribution of pottery within the excavation in relation to class, shape, type and chronology. At this phase of processing work has been limited to pottery analysis and the input of pottery finds, however the programme is structured for the input and processing of all types of archaeological finds.
