The ancient necropolis of Vumbloi is located at a height of about 500 m above sea level, near an alluvial field. The area is rich of archaeological monuments and sites. The most important settlement is the ancient city of Himara. The necropolis is an indicator of the presence of a rural settlement. It is included in the territory of the ancient centre of Himara. A large number of graves can be seen on the surface, which are damaged by clandestine excavations. Most of them are graves with simple architecture with stone slabs placed vertically. In 2015, one of them was excavated (Tomb no 1). Unlike other tombs, its walls were built with stone slabs placed horizontally on top of each other. It was characterised by a carved bed (pillow) for the upper limbs as well as the niche formed in the northern short wall. Grave No. 1 has a rectangular plan with a length of 3 m and a width of 1.70 m. The depth of the grave reached 0.86 m. The floor of the tomb was made of weathered clay and gravel. The grave was covered with three large stone slabs, one of which has been preserved and measures 123 cm x 70 cm x 7 cm. The other two old tiles of the cover were damaged by treasure hunters. All these elements make the tomb quite special, as it has been treated differently from other tombs with simple architecture around it. Most of the grave goods had been looted. Only an iron spear and a lamp were found, dating it to the third century BC. The cemetery where grave no. 1 is located, even though it belongs to a rural settlement, has elements of monumental architecture, which indicates the prosperity of the population in this part of the Ionian coast.
