A Presenzano, i lavori eseguiti lungo la strada provinciale per Tora-Venafro (al Km 4+460, in località Pozzo), hanno portato al rinvenimento di alcuni ambienti, indagati in parte, appartenenti ad complesso edilizio vissuto, con diversa intensità, dall’epoca tardo-repubblicana ad almeno il VI secolo d.C. Interessante un tesoretto recuperato all’interno di un ambiente, in parte ancora contenuto in un’olla, composto di monete in bronzo tardo romane, purtroppo in grave stato di corruzione.
In linea generale, comunque, risulta confermata la presenza, ai piedi dell’attuale centro storico di Presenzano, di un quartiere abitativo di considerevoli proporzioni - un pagus dell’antica Rufrae oppure un grande impianto residenziale rurale - e con una certa continuità di occupazione particolarmente ben attestata tra il III ed il V secolo d.C.; ad esso si riferiscono le tombe scavate, alla fine del 2000, poco più ad ovest, presso la masseria Durante.

At Presenzano, work undertaken along the Tora-Venafro provincial road (at km 4+460, locality of Pozzo), brought to light a number of rooms that were partially investigated. They were part of a building complex which was occupied with varying intensity from the late Republican period to at least the 5th century A.D. An interesting hoard was recovered from one of the rooms, in part still contained in a jar, comprising late Roman bronze coins, unfortunately in an extremely corroded condition.
The presence was confirmed, at the foot of the present historic centre of Presenzano, of a residential area of considerable size. Probably a pagus of ancient Rufrae or a large rural settlement, it had a certain continuity of occupation that was particularly well attested between the 3rd-5th century A.D. The tombs excavated at the end of 2000, slightly to the west near the masseria Durante, can be associated with this settlement.
