ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCAVATIONS OF A TUMULUS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF PET MOGILI (Georgi Atanasov, Stanimir Stoichev – s_stoichev@mail.bg) The exploration of tumulus No. 6 of the tumular necropolis situated near the village of Pet Mogili continued in 2004. The tumulus is the last one of a necropolis consisting of six tumuli excavated in 1993 and in 2002. In 2002, two cremation burials of the Roman period were discovered in tumulus No. 6. In 2004, the western part of the tumulus was explored. A pile of stones was discovered in the northwestern sector of the tumulus. A center for pottery production explored during 1977 – 1980 is situated near the tumular necropolis. There are numerous remains of the Chalcolithic period, the 1st millennium BC, the Roman period and the Middle Ages in the region.
